Business License For Website, Are there tax and other benefits?

Highrankings.com has a wonderful discussion going on that will help all you budding entrepreneurs who are struggling with all of questions about start up issues for a new small home based business. It has comments about small business licensing, tax deductions, write offs, incorporating and more. Here is the question that started it all.

I spend money on my website (registration fees, hosting fees, advertising fees, etc), and I make money from website. Both amounts are substantial.

It’s coming tax season soon, and I know it’s too late for this season, but I’m thinking of getting a business license for my website. Then I would be able to receive certain benefits, such as the ability to write off legitimate business expenses, right?Write off legitimate business expenses, right?

Has anybody else gone down this road? What benefits are there to becoming an official business? For federal tax benefits, do I have to register with the Federal government, or will just a state business license will do?

Is it worth it? Or is it just a headache?

Thanks
