Great Domain Names are Still Available

A participant in Teaching on the Internet asked for a suggestion on selecting a domain name this morning.

I purchased this great E-book Content cash inferno a couple of weeks ago and am hanging on every word. He has a great section on Domain Names.

*How to effortlessly choose keyword rich domain names for your new sites. Think all the good domain names are taken?

Think again… and they’re only $8.75 or less per year!

By now you’ve probably seen my Wedding Dress site. When I went searching for a domain name for that site, I found that weddingdresses.com was already taken. No surprise there since most one or two word phrases already are. But I put a number in front of it and http://www.1weddingdresses.com was still available. So I have my nicely keyworded domain name without making it too long, and without adding any other words that could possibly dilute the relevancy, or prompt untargeted Adsense ads to show up on my pages.

When researching domain names, just try placing a number before or after the phrase, or try using words like secrets, howto, my, your, our, why, we, etc. depending on the phrase your targeting.

I’ll add some of my thoughts:

Shorter names are better than longer names, and descriptive names are better than generic names.

The first thing to do is to build a list of keywords that describe your site. Make the list as comprehensive as you can. Include phrases (but no punctuation except for hyphens- no spaces or underscores) in you list. Arrange the list with the names you like best at the top.

You’re not restricted to one domain name for your site or blog. When registering your domain names, check to see if similar names-or the same name in different TLDs-are available, and consider spending the money to register them as well. The same IP address can be associated with multiple names, the same way that married couples with different surnames have separate listings in the phone book for the same phone number. Hostgator

can easily set this up for you.

Here are the unrestricted top level domains:
.biz
.com
.info
.net
.org

The cheapest domain registration I have found is Yahoo small business, some as low ast $4.95
