Adding RSS capability to an existing Web site

This Morning I found this question on the disscusion board of How to Start an Internet Business:

So if I already have a website designed with Frontpage and I want to add a blog to it, do I have to start over or can I just add it to the existing website?
Thanks
Curt

My Answer:

You can do it either way both have some advantages and disadvantages. In the case of Barbs hairstyle blog we have chosen temporarily to addon to her existing site. We have done this so that the new blog can get the pass-through benefits of her high search engine rankings. This is especially important in the early days of a blog as most of the search engines ignore brand new sites for at least 90 days. You may hear this referred to as the sandbox. So if you create a standalone blog you’re not going to get any search engine traffic for at least 90 days but if you attach that same blog to an existing web site your new pages will start showing up immediately and have some pass-through SEO juice.

The other issue is that FrontPage can not create a blog for you. You will have to use something other than FrontPage to create your blog. I will use and recommend WordPress, it is by far and away the de facto standard of professional bloggers. The software is free but must be set up on your server. If you’re lucky he your existing Internet service provider already has WordPress installed on your server and you can create your WordPress blog with one button set up on your servers control panel.

And clearly if you’re going to set up a new web site you’ll wanna make sure you asked that question of the potential new organization or attempting you to sign up with them. One organization that I know that already has to set up and is very reasonable is the Host Gator people. They currently host five blogs for us.
