Accept Credit Cards Online

For those of you who are just getting started with your first website and need a low cost easy way to accept online payments by credit card on a shopping cart service, the PayPal program is a no brainer. If you don’t want to be bogged down with a proper merchant account, or you are taking low volume, low value transactions, PayPal enables small businesses to securely, conveniently and cost-effectively receive payments online. The network builds on the existing financial infrastructure of bank accounts, debit cards and credit cards to create a global, real-time payment solution. PayPal has 63.8 million member accounts and is accepted in 45 countries worldwide making it an easy and effective way to transact internationally. The cost per transaction can be quite high, but as there is no monthly fee, this is a reasonable trade-off if your monthly revenues are low.
Pros:
- It’s really easy to get a payment button up and running on your site
- You can use it to securely send payments to others
- Anyone who’s ever used ebay will already have an account
- Giving refunds is a doddle
- Great low-cost way of adding secure credit card payments to your site
- They’re not greedy with commission or charges
- Multiple currencies supported
Cons:
- Poor perception in the marketplace
- People from many countries (such as South Africa)
are unable to get a PayPal account which reduces sales potential
if you sell internationally.
