Finding Underserved Niche Market

Resources for Finding an Internet Marketing Niche

Down through the years I have watched many of the students who have taken my class How to Start and Internet Business spend months working on an Internet business and never make dollar one. The mistake that most make is not doing market research at the very beginning to determine whether or not there is anybody searching for the product or service they are contemplating. Introducing a product into a market that is marginal is like pushing water uphill. It can be done but not without lots of money and effort.

“start out in a market that is being underserved”

Why not start out in a market that is being underserved and has desperate for what your going to sell them? This morning one of my students in How to Start and Internet Business posted the following question: “Gary, How do I go about finding out if there is a market for my product?”

Her timing was good as I have been accumulating information for an mini class that I’m contemplating on the topic. So I decided to release some of my research before publication.

Here was my reply:

That is Really an Important Question

This is where many new webmasters who dream of earning a living online go wrong. Finding a hungry market is Job 1 at this point. It really doesn’t matter how good the product is . . . if nobody is searching for it, you’re going to be old and gray before somebody buys something from you.

Start by reading this article: http://pubjunction.com/niche-marketing-2-brainstorm-niche-ideas read all five of the articles then use these sources for inspiration and number crunching. Look for niches where there is lots of people searching for something and very few competitors providing it. The bigger the gap between those two issues the bigger the opportunity. When you find a topic then, and only then, start thinking about the product your going to sell.

The simplest way to get a count is: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ But other sources for market research on the Internet include:
